Catch and Cook, Canoe and Camp! Jackfish, cold night and warm fires, Hidden Lake, NWT.
So, it didn’t go quite fully to plan, but after one cold night, and what proved to be very bad weather moving in, we went from a weekend trip to a quick overnighter for a relaxing getaway. Was a good shakedown to test some gear and ourselves, and the portages showed us how little we should carry next time! We didn’t quite hit our target of Hidden Lake, but we can always try again. We saw loons, bald eagles, geese, ducks, kingfishers, whiskey jacks red squirrels, a beaver and lots and lots of mosquitoes. Until it got cold enough to get them calmed down! Carved a fork, filleted breakfast and even managed to get my lure unstuck from the bottom of the lake.
